Public work and network

Also at its seat in Friedrichshain, the association tries to advance the local development, especially  in the self-help range of socially disadvantaged groups and migrants. We participate on the citizen movement “Local Agenda Friedrichshain 21”, working group “One World” ,in the social community Friedrichshain, in the work community “Kiezentwicklung/ project Friedrichshain” and the work community “Friedelhainer energy group”.
Through common public work of different participants, will be promote tolerance and people communication as well as ecological change. Fair trade will be supported and education work of development policy will be extended. Lobbying for more north south justice is organized; a successful example of it is, since 2001 each year the organized world celebration “LINK” at the Boxhagener Platz. At local and road celebrations the association presented a own stall, where you can get, beside current information and project documentations, also a collection of fair traded  african art and utensils. In our office we offer one room for a photo exhibition about the people of the Rendille in Kenya and some african sculptures. Like this we want to give our working place a bit of african spirit.

Since 2006 the association support the radio project  Radioprojekt Studio Ansage .

In the show of radio “Fhain” (each Tuesday of 16 to 18 o'clock live on UKW 97.2 MHz) are publicized  development policy reports and local topics.

Education work

In Zusammenarbeit mit Schulen (z.B. dem Andreas-Gymnasium) und Jugendfreizeiteinrichtungen bieten wir Projekttage und -wochen an, wo Jugendliche den Aufbau und die Funktion von Solarkochern erlernen sowie einen Eindruck von Umwelt- und Lebensbedingungen bei unseren afrikanischen Partnerprojekten vermittelt bekommen und die Möglichkeit erhalten, eine Umweltpartnerschaft zu begründen. In Seminaren zu aktuellen Themen wird interessierten Teilnehmern Hintergrundwissen zu unseren Arbeitsschwerpunkten vermittelt, sowie die politische, soziale und kulturelle Situation in den Projektländern analysiert.

African and international culture work

The project “Shrine” forms the basis for/of an intercultural meeting center. The establishment was inspired, by the Nigerian musician and freedom fighter Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who was furnishing a public place named “African Shrine ", in his Kalakuta republic on Lagos. Traditionally a Shrine is a place for the meeting of humans and Gods. For Fela Kuti the Shrine was first of all an alive place for humans, which was going to become a legendary forum, for an unusual mixture of culture and politics. In the starting time the “Friedrichshainer Shrine” was situated in the Kreutzigerstrasse12. There was taking a lot of different meetings like concerts, theatres and small art, workshops and project presentations as well as ritual ceremonies. Since November 1999 the Shrine present itself on the area of the “RAW Tempel e.V.” as a place of the Yurubaculture with music of Fela Kuti, African lunch, open air and open space.

Model project: ecological development of a city with adapted technologies

The old building area in Friedrichshain, consisting of tenement houses of the founderd`s time, is exposed to extensive reorganization and modernization measures, since the turn. Usually such measures serve the maximization of profit and displace thereby low-income social classes.
In contrast to this the model project, in which different carriers of the area are participate, has an integral attempt and include ecological and social components. .
The inhabitants control there houses trough cooperated collective possessions. The self managed “eastberlin cooperative” (S.O.G.) administers five houses in Friedrichshain, among this also the Kreutzigerstrasse 18/19, as the seat of our association. According to the requirement of common living and working (e.g. project days in the first floor and people share a flat) the renovation was planned together, and realized by structural self-help.

An energy group is going to make the houses step by step more independent, of fossil sources of energy and their offerers. The self-supply trough solar energy and blockheizkraftwerken, as well as the purchase of nature stream are planned.
To increase the quality of life and improve the micro climate in the living area, there will be used natural building materials as well as the roofs, fronts and inner courts getting greener. Because this expanded work, were created some jobs for humans without incomes. In the autumn of 2006 we finished the repair works in the Kreutzigerstr.18/19 finally.
